Tempe Water pays $0.50 per square foot for residential grass removal and conversion to desert landscaping, up to $2,000 per home per fiscal year (July 1–June 30). The minimum project size is 500 sq ft.
The TreeBate program offers up to $125 toward native and desert-adapted trees or plants when you combine it with the Grass Removal Rebate. A separate TreeBate application is required — contact Tempe Water at 480-350-8351 for details.
No. You must schedule a free consultation with a Tempe Water conservation specialist and receive a Notice to Proceed before touching any grass. Starting early will disqualify your project.
At least 30% of the converted area must be covered with living desert-adapted plants. Artificial turf alone does not meet this requirement.
Yes. The $2,000 cap is per fiscal year (July 1–June 30). You can apply in a subsequent fiscal year for additional turf removal.
